California, Please....

Friday March 19th- here I'll take California and 80 degree weather, please!
This car (and it's people) want to see warmth & sunshine not wet & snow!
So we started the week with fifths disease and are ending it with strep throat... We started it with snow and are ending it with snow...(although we did have some beautiful near 70 degree days inbetween) Next week's gotta be better, right? California, please!

Colorado....

Where you see a $2000 mountain bike on top of a $200 car...

Where Halloween costumes are made to fit over parkas....

Where you can go from using the heat to using the A.C. in the course of one day....

Where April showers bring May blizzards....

(taken from a commercial seen lately. we love Colorado!! However, we are into the time of year where the cold & occasional snow are getting tiresome and really ready for some warm weather! Good thing we are headed to Cali in a couple days:)

2nd Grade Music Program

Monday night was a program for all the second grade classes- Josh's class is in yellow and being one of the taller kids in his class (always) he is on the top row. It was titled 'Hoppin' Through the Holidays' and they sang songs about all the holidays in this second semester of school.

Dave had to work, but Lexi and Zach were most entertaining! While waiting for it to start Zach looked up front and made a comment about the easter egg, the heart and the broccoli (shamrock) then as he looked around he spotted a guy not too far (but far enough not to hear I hope) that he felt he needed to tell me about, "mom, see that guy with the sunglasses? He's a man not a girl." (He had long hair in a pony tail) Zach also spotted a girl in his class and when I asked him if he wanted to say hi to her he said, "She's not even my friend- she's on the girl team!" Then there was Lexi. She was in rare cheerleader form. As soon as she saw Josh walk in she starts her, "Go Joshie Go!" Then as they are waiting to get all the kids situated (and it is pretty quiet) she yells, "Do it!" (like get started maybe?) Then as soon as they get into the first song she belts out, "I like your song, Josh!" I don't know how many times I was trying to refrain from laughing while telling Lexi to be quiet. At one point she told me, "mom, I want to sing. Maybe when I get a green shirt like him I can sing here." The second grade program was cute and my seat mates where pretty cute too.

On another note- all 3 kids went to the dentist on tuesday. Lexi was a trooper patient- she sat so still, doing what they asked through the xrays and cleaning! Josh did pretty good too- Zach was the one that sat up half way through the cleaning and wouldn't let them finish with the brush that rotates, but he did pretty good besides that. He had a very loose tooth on bottom next to his first one that fell out and during the cleaning it popped right out. So 2 teeth gone in about 2 weeks for him! AND, best of all- NO cavites for any of them!!!! This mom was over the moon about that news!!!!

Pinewood Derby

licensed and ready to roll

Lexi loves her ruby red slippers :)

Josh's car came in first the first run down!! They ran them four times- once in each lane and the other times he was second or third.
Zach was pretty happy about his raffle tickets hopeful that he would be winning the big bucket of popcorn they were raffling off (unfortunately he was not the winner:(

Sat. was a gorgeous and warm day so after the race we went to a new-to-us hiking area. It was nice and a good little walk (sooooo nice that we have 3 that walk themselves now!) but ended on a bad note with Zach pushing Josh off the top of a big rock they were both standing on. Josh fell about 4-5 feet onto his back/side. Thankfully, he seemed to be fine not too long afterwards. I think it traumatized both boys a bit as they both say they don't want to play on any rocks anymore. Sunday turned cold with some snow in the afternoon. We also ended the week-end with a boy that had bright red cheeks and it was apparent something was going on. As it turns out Josh we believe has fifths disease. His cheeks are better but now has quite the rash all over his arms and body. I hope the other two can avoid it, but not too likely.

The Race is Coming...

Pinewood Derby is here again...

this Saturday...
tonight- they got ready for it-eye test, driver's license, weighing and checklist for the cars, making trophy stands... (this below, while Josh was hammering in nails, is where Lexi spontaneously started belting out, "GO JOSHIE GO!"
The cars are now safely impounded with the pack leader until Saturday.

Saturday Review

Great weather for checking out a couple new things in Denver ~

Hammond's candy factory- gift shop and free tour

watching them make candy canes
Lexi, of course, LOVED it there!
packaging area

a few free samples
then downtown - here's the capital

we visited the Colorado History Museum

it is free for a few weeks since they are in the process of moving (meant there were quite a few things missing already or being boxed, bubble wrapped, etc.- but we got an idea of what it's like)

Josh tries his hand at roping a calf....
check out that FORM!!!
the next try he actually ended up on the ground:)
barrel horse riding
and our final stop- the tattered cover bookstore- Denver actually has 3 and I had never been in one. Pretty good sized and nice. The kids liked climbing up on the step stools (and riding the elevator) This picture was taken at Lexi's request.

Week in Review

a hike last week-end
a kindergarteners first lost tooth! it actually fell out at school and he didn't even know it- thus our second note to the tooth fairy. He was making goofy faces for the photo I was trying to get. Notice the space on top (natural space) looks about like the space on the bottom (lost tooth) :( He sometimes talks about the tooth he lost up there ?

crazy big brother Josh. The photo below is josh demonstrating how he "forged" my name- apparently I forgot to sign one of his paper books like in the photo below and he didn't want to tell the teacher so he signed my name on it.... can hardly tell the difference.
3 Big kids in a tub- I had to get a photo cuz this probably won't be happening too many more times (and it's great for later bribery:)

this morning out on the road- we ran into a schwan's guy we know! Dave!

Josh and I spent a couple hours this morning (the kids were off today) volunteering at a farm in black forest (and getting a ticket to Disneyland in return!) It was a bit chilly, but not terrible and Josh had fun- we got to feed and water the dogs, chickens, & ducks, walk the dogs and brush the horses. Pretty cool.
Not pictured is Josh's cub scouts going bowling (and Zach got to join in until he got his finger squished between 2 bowling balls- then he was done) I actually remembered the camera for that one, but found the battery was dead:( Josh did pretty good at it and had fun.
